1. What is BIVETU?
BIVET-U is a national non-profit initiative dedicated to supporting and empowering Uganda’s army veterans, their spouses, widows, dependents, and families through welfare services, capacity building, advocacy, and development programs.
2. Who qualifies to benefit from BIVETU’s programs?
Eligible beneficiaries include honourably discharged veterans, reserve forces, spouses, widows, dependents, women veterans, and veterans living with disabilities.
3. What are BIVETU’s main areas of focus?
BIVETU focuses on veteran welfare, economic empowerment, legal support, healthcare and psychosocial services, education, research, partnerships, gender inclusion, and family support.
4. Does BIVETU help veterans access pensions and entitlements?
Yes. BIVETU provides legal aid, advisory services, and follow-up support to help veterans access pensions, gratuities, compensations, land rights, and other entitlements.
5. How does BIVETU support economic empowerment?
Through vocational training, demonstration farms, SME development, business incubation, cooperative strengthening, SACCO revitalization, and access to microcredit and government livelihood programs like PDM and Emyooga.
6. What health and wellbeing services are available?
We provide psychosocial support, trauma counseling, rehabilitation assistance, wellness campaigns, and health awareness programs for veterans and their families.
7. Does BIVETU offer educational support?
Yes. BIVETU supports scholarships, skills training, apprenticeships, digital literacy, and capacity-building programs for veterans and their children, spouses, and dependents.
8. How does BIVETU help with reintegration into civilian life?
We run reintegration programs, community engagement activities, mental health support, and social inclusion initiatives to ease the transition from military to civilian environments.
9. What role does research and policy play in BIVETU?
The Research, Policy & Legal Affairs Department collects data, conducts research, and advocates for national policies that protect veterans’ rights and strengthen welfare systems.
10. Does BIVETU partner with UPDF and government agencies?
Yes. We maintain strong linkages with UPDF, MODVA, government ministries, district structures, and security agencies to improve coordination and veteran inclusion in national programs.
11. Are women veterans and widows supported?
Absolutely. We have a dedicated Directorate for Women Veterans & Family Support that provides welfare services, GBV prevention, leadership training, economic empowerment, and family strengthening programs.
12. What support exists for veterans with disabilities?
BIVETU ensures accessible services, specialized support programs, assistive devices, healthcare advocacy, and representation for veterans living with disabilities.
13. How does BIVETU ensure transparency and accountability?
Through an internal audit unit, compliance mechanisms, financial reporting, M&E systems, procurement controls, and governance practices guided by the Constitution.
14. How does BIVETU mobilize resources?
We develop fundraising strategies, cultivate donor partnerships, engage private sector actors, and collaborate with government entities to secure financial, material, and technical resources.
15. How can communities support BIVETU’s mission?
Communities can participate in reintegration initiatives, support sensitization programs, partner in development activities, employ veterans, and join national efforts promoting dignity, unity, and veteran welfare.
