Empowering Veterans for Inclusive National Development
Background
The Bright Well Veterans’ Empowerment Initiative Uganda (BIVETU) is a national, non-profit organization founded to honour, support, and uplift Uganda’s army veterans and their families. Built on the recognition of the immense sacrifices made by the men and women who have served in the Uganda Armed Forces, BIVETU exists to ensure that veterans live with dignity, opportunity, and purpose long after their service.
We acknowledge that many veterans face social, economic, health, and reintegration challenges after leaving active duty. BIVETU was established to bridge this gap by creating an inclusive, equitable, and sustainable platform dedicated to their welfare and development.
Our work is driven by the belief that veterans are custodians of national peace and security, and deserve robust support systems to thrive in civilian life.
What We Do
The Brightwell Veterans’ Empowerment Initiative Uganda (BIVETU) empowers Uganda’s army veterans and their families through welfare support, skills development, legal protection, and economic opportunities. We deliver nationwide programs that promote health and well-being, smooth reintegration, education, and community development.
We advocate for veteran rights, ensure access to entitlements, strengthen family resilience, and support women, widows, and veterans with disabilities. Through partnerships with government, UPDF, NGOs, and the private sector, we build sustainable pathways for employment, entrepreneurship, and national development.
BIVETU is committed to dignity, accountability, and equal opportunity ensuring that every veteran is seen, supported, and empowered to thrive.
Our Commitment
BIVETU is guided by principles of inclusivity, gender equality, and the protection of disabled veterans. We strive to ensure full participation of women, widows, dependents, and physically challenged veterans in all leadership and programme activities.
